One of the fundaments since the start of INCUBE is our commitment to innovation. We have developed a model for innovation based on interdisciplinary cooperation. Our office has a unique competence in materials technology and renewable energy. This gives us the opportunity to create architecture that breaks down traditional barriers.
Innovation project at INCUBE with partners since 2013. The goal was to commercialize a modular building systems with integrated energy storage and PV energy production for a sustainable zero or plus energy homes.
Increased requirements for energy efficiency in buildings have created code limiting the the visual appearance and the architectural expression of new buildings. We were inspired by this challenge and began to explore innovative methods and materials to see if we could use them to create better technical solutions and new architectural opportunities. This resulted in the BAUROX wall systems. Using recycled glass (cell glass) we were able to create new innovative wall elements that combine insulation and construction properties in a simple construction. By simplifying the construction of the wall and reducing the number of layers, a cost-effective wall can be formed that still offers great architectural freedom as well as good environmental features and lifespan. Passive houses or zero energy homes are obtained with a form and function that is appealing for the home owner at a attractive costs, maintenance and lifespan value proposition for the building.
The project was continued with partners under the ECO HOME brand, where second life electric car batteries are used as energy storage and solar cells are integrated into prefabricated roofing elements (www.ecohomeinnovation.com). Our modular system provides significant cost reduction for the PV installation. Furthermore, by exploiting opportunities for the reuse of used electric car batteries in housing, this gives a source for low cost energy storage. Together, this provides sustainable and cost-effective zero plus home.
A internal innovation project at INCUBE since 2015.
The goal is to create unique surfaces and surface structures and a lifecycle for buildings with a greater control of the visual surface structure.
Through our expertise in materials technology, we have an understanding of electrochemical processes. This enables us to create a number of new interesting metal surfaces. We have insight into processes that both build up and corrode / break down metals. By controlling these mechanisms we manage to create vibrant metal surfaces and we are able to make the surface change and adapt to the environment. Surface treatment of metals has been used in a variety of applications to change the appearance of the surface or to create protective films / coatings.
- The methods we work with are:
- Interference coloring of Titan
- Oxidation of aluminum with subsequent color pigmentation
- Metal deposition on steel to make mirror-like surfaces
- Galvanizing processes to create corrosion-resistant surfaces
-Deposition of metals such as copper, bronze or brass on a metal base
A internal innovation project at INCUBE started in 2014.
The goal was to create a wall with new exciting features.
Projects was performed as a challenge to see if we could create a multifunctional wall. We wanted to create indoor wall elements that could meet three new features.
- The outer surface must have a beautiful aesthetic appearance.
- The wall must provide electrical power.
- The wall should provide noise absorption.
The result we have called The Light Wall. Light fixtures can be placed anywhere on the wall. The base of the light fixture is pressed into the wall. Inside the wall elements, it connects to a range of innovative low voltage power sources. You always get the right light in the right place without cables or connectors. To further enhance your room experience, our noise-absorbing layer will dampen unwanted noise. Beautiful textile covers the wall elements to give an appealing look. Together, this creates a feeling of a warm, quiet room to relax in, read a good book or for a good conversation.
